Source : Dentist
Holistic Dental is a state-of-the-art dentistry practice; motivated to help you achieve a beautiful, healthy smile. Within our dentistry practice we aspire to serve our patients with Holistic (teeth, gums, jaws, bite, muscle and joints), preventative, predictable, long term and quality dental care - which will help you keep your teeth for life and have you looking and feeling good.

At Holistic Dental we have recognised the impact your dental health can have on the rest of your body. It has been clinically proven that inadequate oral health can have a significant impact on your general well-being. Heart and Cardiovascular Disease are more likely to occur if the patient also suffers from poor dental health. It can therefore be said that overall health may just begin in the mouth with your teeth. In most instances we can also show you how a bad bite can relate to chronic headaches, neck and shoulder pain.

http://cosmeticdentistmelbourne.com.au/images/side_home.jpgYour health and safety are of the highest priority to us. We utilise the latest sterilisation processes and are an amalgam free dental practice.

Holistic Dental provides patients with healthier and longer lasting filling alternatives to traditional dental methods. We also have our own dental laboratory and utilise only the latest dental equipment and technology.

We want you to be your own best dentist. Holistic Dental cares for your oral and general well-being and aspires to inform and educate our patients on the best prevention and maintenance tips. We look forward to caring for you.

Treatments that Can Help Dental Phobia Patients

Source : Dentist

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ja3kC6sS9rI/TJMjPW8vkII/AAAAAAAAAB0/-IaonRNN3D0/s1600/teethphobia.jpgAs dental anxiety is so common, dentists now receive training in dealing with nervous patients and a range of treatments has been developed to enable patients to face their fears. Once of the newest treatments on the market is NuCalm. This treatment mimics the natural relaxed state of the body and induces a state of calm, which is usually associated with the first stage of sleep. NuCalm uses various steps to gradually calm the patient; first, the patient must chew on GABA (a natural nutrient found in the brain) tablets, which help to block the action of adrenalin in the body. Following this, the patient has low frequency waves passed through patches attached to the side of the head; this alters the frequency of the waves in the brain to those associated with relaxation. The patient also wears headphones and dark glasses to block out light and noise. NuCalm is a non-invasive treatment, which has no harmful side-effects.
Sedation is also offered by many dental practices. This method helps to prevent patients from experiencing pain by temporarily suspending the activity of the central nervous system. Sedatives can be administered intravenously or inhaled via a mask. Inhaled sedatives are best for patients who have a fear of needles.
Healozone is another popular new treatment. This treatment uses ozone to treat tooth decay quickly and accurately. Healozone can help to reduce the risk of a patient needing extensive, potentially painful treatment in the future; the procedure is completely painless.
Many dentists also offer treatment using the wand, which is a replacement for the needle and not something out of Harry Potter. Many people have a phobia of needles and this can cause anxiety when they go the dentist. The wand is a device which controls the flow of anaesthetic, reducing the risk of painful injections. Numbing gel can also help to reduce pain and put patient̢۪s minds at ease.
What occurs within the mouth does have a significant impact on the rest of the body. At Holistic Dental we care for your oral health as well as your overall well-being and aspire to create healthy, natural smiles for life. We look forward to caring for you.

Five Ways to remove Nicotine stains from teeth

Source : Dentist Melbourne

http://www.studiodentaire.com/images/teeth_stains.jpgApart from all of the obvious health issues of smoking, nicotine can seriously stain your teeth, leaving them looking yellow and unhealthy. There is no quick and easy method for removing nicotine stains from your teeth; however there are a number of options varying in effectiveness and cost that can give you back your pearly whites.

 1.

Maintain proper dental hygiene by brushing your teeth regularly, particularly after smoking, using mouthwash at least twice a day and flossing. While these methods will only slowly remove nicotine stains, they can help stop further darkening of your teeth.

2.

Replace your regular toothpaste with a mixture of baking soda and peroxide. Simply combine the two ingredients to make a smooth paste and use as you would any toothpaste. Baking soda and peroxide are common ingredients in many toothpastes; however, you will have better results in removing nicotine stains if you use only these two active ingredients.

3.

Apply the baking soda and peroxide paste, or your regular toothpaste, with an electric toothbrush with double heads. These types of toothbrushes clean better and reach touch surfaces, helping to remove nicotine stains faster.

4.

Use an over-the-counter whitening product, which come in gels, pastes and whitening strips. While these productshttp://i3.squidoocdn.com/resize/squidoo_images/-1/lens2775212_1235077163white-teeth.jpgwork effectively, overuse can cause damage to tooth enamel, so use them at your own risk. Over-the-counter whitening products also increase the absorption rate of your teeth, meaning your teeth will become stained more easily from coffee and nicotine.

5.

Consult your dentist about profession tooth whitening and nicotine stain removal options. Professional methods may include gel applications, laser treatment or painting.

At Holistic Dental we have the latest in "In Chair" Tooth Whitening techniquesusing the ZOOM 2 system as well as various take home systems to cater for all sensitive teeth.

Dental Flossing

Source : Melbourne Dentist

As a Melbourne Dentist I just examined a new patient and asked her how she was referred to our office. She told me there were over 500 dentists in the  insurance book to pick from when she picked our office because we blog. She read my profile and liked reading my blog. I told her I was running out of things to write about ,and she asked me to write about flossing. So here we go.

http://www.redmondmolloy.ie/Portals/73112/images/flossing1.jpgYou should floss every time you brush your teeth. Flossing removes the bacteria that are at the contact points of your teeth. This is the area that can not be reached with regular brushing. Brushing will not disrupt the bacteria at the contact point. When you floss you should make a "C" shape with the floss as you go through the contact and then slide down the tooth making a up and down motion. Using your hands is the best way to do this. I have big hands and trust me I can do the whole mouth properly and it only takes two minutes. You have to give it some practice. If you have a disability you can always use a floss aide like the "Humming Bird" or the reach flosser. These can be bought easily at your local drug store. You can now buy floss with whitener on the floss as well to get those areas white that the bleach does not reach.

Flossing at bed is the most important. I have patients tell me that they do it waiting at a red light or they like doing it in the shower. Doing it any time is great for you overall health. Keeping down the plaque bacteria is good for your heart as well.

Sleep Dentistry / Sedation Dentistry at Holistic Dental

Source : Best Cosmetic Dentist in Melbourne

http://www.sweetsmiles.co.uk/Site/images/sedation.jpgSleep dentistry is a use of medically supervised and administered intravenous (IV) sedation. Normally referred to as conscious sedation, it is most advanced type of dental sedation obtainable and utilizes a blend of sedative as well as ache relieving drugs to generate a sleepy and dream-like condition of deep, soothing relaxation for entire period of dental procedure.

Sleep Dentistry would:

• Ease patient's terror, worry and distress.

• Eliminate consciousness, sights, sounds and smells.

• Enable busy individuals to have many procedures in one particular session.

• Relieve the tedium of long and composite sessions.

• Sleep Dentistry will make your dental visit a calming and relaxing experience.

Sedation dentistry (also recognized as sleep dentistry, conscious or twilight sedation) is most advanced type of dentalhttp://www.mycosmeticdentisthouston.com/images/sedation-dentist.pngsedation. You will feel like you have had a very satisfying and deep sleep. You would feel no pain, no worry and no terror. You would go home with heightened sense of happiness and contentment for having attended to dental health.

Sedation Dentistry allows patients to experience complexdental treatments (which normally require 6 to 8 appointments) in only one consultation. Feeling no ache at all, you would be calm and at ease all through the entire process. In your sedation dentistry cure you are not comatose at any time, just in an intensely relaxed state. Your fundamental signs are monitored during your entire visit as well as you are never ever left alone.

Depending on the individual requirements, sedation dentistry might last amid two to six hours. Bad Breath Treatment

Source : Dentist Melbourne

http://www.dentist.net/images/bad-breath.jpgIf you suffer from Bad Breath or Halitosis and have not found a successful treatment for it, then we have the answer. The CloSys IIOral Rinse and Toothpaste.

One of the most common causes of Bad Breath is advanced Gum Disease and sometimes this is the only sign that gum disease exists. In most cases even your closest partner won't even tell you of your problem.

Bacteria accumulating under the gums produce odour causing volatile sulphur compounds called VSCs which are a similar odour to rotten eggs.

Not only do these VSCs cause bad breath but they also promote the advancement of the gum disease.

At Holistic Dental we have the CLOSYSII ® ORAL RINSE AND TOOTHPASTE products available that not only cover up the odours causing Bad Breath, but will actually destroy them. CloSys II can also assist in the prevention of gum disease in your continuing care and maintenance program.

At Holistic Dental our dentists can work with you and following Comprehensive Examination and Diagnosis they can determine the cause of your problem and recommend the best treatment for you.

Root Canal Dentist

Source: 24 Hour Dentist melbourne

Root Canal Treatment is necessary when the nerve of a tooth (or pulp) becomes diseased or infected. In such cases the nerve of the tooth must be removed.

http://lh4.ggpht.com/_cPuFKeuAK64/TKMU0I6kbmI/AAAAAAAAAIQ/mypdkiamh5U/Untitled2.pngIf a patient's tooth pulp becomes irritated, bacteria will begin to grow within the tooth. This growth results in pressure and causes pain as well as possible facial swelling to the patient. If a Root Canal is not performed, eventually bacteria will destroy the pulp. The bone structure around the tooth will then become infected and will inevitably lead to tooth loss. Previously if a tooth became infected or diseased it would have simply been removed. Today however, every possible step is taken to save all teeth and keep you with your natural teeth for life.

To conclude if Root Canal Treatment is necessary x-rays would be taken at your dental consultation. After which point a series of appointments would be assigned to you for your Root Canal Treatment.

Throughout your Root Canal Treatment Holistic Dental will ensure every possible step is taken to make you feel comfortable and at ease. We will make certain all of your questions and queries are answered and that we work together as a team to preserve your teeth.
