Does cleaning your teeth bring more than a nice smile?

SOURCE : HOLISTIC DENTIST

Your mum and dad no doubt repeated a certain mantra, along with your schoolteacher, your dentist and numerous public information videos, posters and booklets.

And it's one of those mantras that no matter how often it's been drummed into your skull, you'll never quite manage to stick to it 100%.

The mantra? BRUSH YOUR TEETH TWICE A DAY!

Ok, so everybody misses out on a few brushings. We are human after all. You fall asleep in front of the television, and stumble to bed bleary-eyed, forgetting to brush. Or you're in a tent halfway up a mountain and can't be bothered fishing for the toothbrush in your rucksack for the brush. Or maybe you just plain forgot.

But while the occasional non-brushing won't do any harm, it's now come to light that regular twice-a-day brushing may actually help prevent heart disease. While the links between gum and heart disease have long been mooted yet unproven, it's still another good reason to keep your teeth and gums in good order by twice a day brushing.

Of course, the heart needs more than just good oral hygeine to help it. So, keep brushing twice a day, but live healthy between those brush sessions: quit or cut down smoking, and keep those deep fried snacks to a minimum...
